Take Advantage of the Summer

The summer is a great time to strengthen skills, prepare for upcoming tests, and focus on specific areas where your child could grow or excel. In addition to our regular clinic hours and classes, we are offering three summer classes:

Whether you have a high school student preparing for the ACT, a middle school student who wants to improve writing and math skills, or a n elementary age student learning to read, we have something for your child!

ACT Prep

What: ACT Prep Course – Learn strategies for all four sections of the ACT. Your student will receive visual study guides, to better prepare for the structure and content of the ACT. We will model strategies, complete practice drills, receive take home practice tests, review answers and identify strategies for improvement.

Your student will learn how to avoid common mistakes, eliminate nonsense answers, and utilize techniques to get to the correct answer in the least amount of time.

We also have qualified staff to guide you through the steps necessary to obtain accommodations from the college testing board.

For Whom: High Schoolers planning to take the ACT in September, 2017

When: (choose ACT Prep I or ACT Prep II) each course = 18 hours of direct instruction

ACT Prep I: Tuesdays & Thursdays 12:30-3:30 May 30, June 1, 6, 8, 13, 15

ACT Prep II: Tuesdays & Thursdays 12:30-3:30 July 11, 13, 18, 20, August 1, 3

Hammer Math

What: If I Had a Hammer© Math Course

For Whom: 5th-6th-7th graders who need new strategies for understanding math better or for the first time. A highly successful and innovative math program using visual learning to master math concepts.

Does your child best learn by working with his hands? Are fractions confusing? Sharpen those math skills, over the summer, in a fun, hands-on program. Students will learn how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. Hands-on manipulatives allow the equation to come to life.

Your student will take a test, before the course begins, and you will receive a report indicating strengths and weaknesses. Video lessons will be provided, in areas of weakness, that you and your child can watch as many times as needed to learn the concept. These lessons are short, animated, and easy to understand.

Summer is a great time to give your child a boost and set them up for greater success when school begins. When: the complete course is 30 hours of direct instruction provided in 15, 2-hour classes.

For Whom: Middle Schoolers who need new strategies for supercharging their writing skills for more success in main idea, vocabulary, grammar, organization, and much more. . . .
